Sarah will be present for the open studio time and will teach the Tuesday evening Led Half Primary Series.

Open Studio
Join us for open studio in the mornings! The doors will be open for your personal yoga practice. Have you ever wanted to start a home practice but struggled with motivation or accountability? Come practice with other yogis! This is NOT a led class: think of this as a gym for yogis. Bring your own goals, your own style, your own sequences and share space and energy with others. Need help designing a sequence that works for you? A certified yoga instructor will be available to help you personalize a practice for your goals and your style. Hands-on assists are offered for those who want them. Whether you practice Vinyasa, Hatha, Ashtanga, Yin or seated meditation, come practice with us and help us build our yoga community! All levels are welcome, from absolute beginners to advanced practitioners.

Led Half Primary Series (70 min)
Primary Series is the first yoga sequence in the Ashtanga yoga method. It is a challenging and energizing set of postures that emphasizes attention to proper form (asana), deep breathing (prana) and a steady gaze (drishti). The first half of Primary Series targets hamstrings and hip openers and will help you build strength and endurance. Dedicated Ashtanga yogis around the world practice this sequence every day, six days a week, and will gradually add more difficult postures over time. The long-term benefits of this program are increased focus, patience, and resilience; students develop a sense of accomplishment as they find that their consistent hard work pays off over time. As Guruji Pattabhi Jois used to say, “Just practice! All is coming!” Modifications will be offered and yogis are encouraged to work at their own level. Hands-on assists are offered for those who want them. Half Primary is suitable for beginners, but it has some difficult elements, so come prepared to work hard!

About Sarah Appelhans

Sarah Appelhans (ERYT-200) received her yoga teacher training in 2008 at Siva Power Yoga in Wichita, KS. During her teacher training, she was introduced to Ashtanga yoga and fell in love with the practice. The challenging postures, the graceful sequencing, and the disciplined routine resonated deeply. Through Ashtanga, she has learned the value of consistent, daily practice as a powerful tool for personal growth. One day at a time, you can learn to do incredible things. Things that once seemed impossible become possible with patience and repetition. The practice has given her a quiet resilience that has seen her through a career in engineering and a PhD in anthropology. Sarah developed her current practice under the guidance of her teacher, Tom Rosenthal of Sruti Yoga, and through numerous workshops with Ashtanga experts Kino MacGregor, David Swenson, and the current lineage holder, Paramaguru Sharath Jois. In 2019, she visited the K. Pattabhi Jois Ashtanga Yoga Institute in Mysore, India, studying with Saraswathi Jois. She continues to find insights in the yoga traditions and has been honored to share this practice with the many students she has taught along the way.
